Japan will announce a policy to reduce marine plastic waste, during G20 summit next month Japan is hoping to cast itself as a leader on the issue, and will reportedly press for an international agreement to reduce the amount of plastic going into the ocean during the Osaka summit to be held on 28th to 30th of next month.

The plan is expected to clarify the goal of reducing the amount of disposable plastic consumption by 25 pct by 2030 and call for promoting recycling and encouraging technological innovations for wider use of plastic that can be degraded in ocean.

The strategy also obliges retailers to charge for plastic bags and calls for expanding the use of bioplastics derived from renewable sources such as plants.
