A two-member bench of the Lahore High Court led by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi has granted bail to Punjab Local Government Minister and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Aleem Khan in assets beyond means and offshore companies case. The bail was granted against surety bonds of Rs10 million. The court ordered his release if his custody was not required in any other case.
A statement released by NAB following Aleem’s arrest had said that the PTI leader “established multiple companies with the purpose of real estate business and invested millions of rupees”.In response to NAB’s allegations, Aleem’s lawyer, however, maintained that the corruption watchdog has failed to prove its charges against his client. He added the bureau arrested the former minister without any plausible reason and demanded that he be released on bail.
Aleem were taken into custody by NAB on February 6 in a case pertaining to assets beyond means and offshore company as he was unable to satisfy NAB regarding his source of income for his properties in Dubai and London. Following the arrest, Aleem had resigned from the post of senior Punjab minister.
