Alia Bhatt was born on March 15, 1993 and is an actress and singer of Indian origin and British citizenship, who works in Hindi films. Recipient of several awards, including two Filmfare Awards, Bhatt is one of the highest paid actresses in India. She has appeared on Forbes Indias celebrity list since 2014 and in 2017 she was introduced by Forbes Asia in her list of 30 under 30s.
Ali Bhatt was born in Mumbai by Indian director Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan. His father is of Gujarati origin and his mother is of Kashmiri and German origin. Director Nanabhai Bhatt is her paternal grandfather. She has an older sister, Shaheen (born 1988) and two half-siblings, Pooja Bhatt and Rahul Bhatt. Actor Emraan Hashmi and director Mohit Suri are his maternal cousins, while producer Mukesh Bhatt is his uncle. Bhatt was educated at Jamnabai Narsee School in Mumbai. She is a British citizen.
Bhatts first role is that of a child artist in Sangharsh (1999), with Akshay Kumar and Preity Zinta where she plays the youngest version of Zintas character.
Born in the Bhatt family, she is the daughter of filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt and actress Soni Razdan. After debuting as an actress in the 1999 thriller Sangharsh, Bhatt played her first lead role in Karan Johars teen drama, Student of the Year (2012). She then collaborated with Johars Dharma Productions studio in most of her subsequent releases, including the romances 2 States (2014), Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014) and Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017); the drama Kapoor & Sons (2016); and the film about the transition to adulthood Dear Zindagi (2016). The commercial success of these films establishes Bhatt in Hindi cinema. She has also been critically acclaimed for performing emotionally intense characters on Highway (2014), which earned her the Best Actress Filmfare Critics Award, and the Filmfare Critical Drama Udta Punjab (2016) for the Filmfare Award. . In 2018, she played a spy in the Raazi thriller, which turned out to be one of the most profitable Hindi films starring a female protagonist.
In addition to playing in movies, Bhatt has launched its own fashion brand for online retailer Jabong.com and is the founder of the eco-friendly initiative CoExist. She has sung six of her songs, including the single Samjhawan Unplugged in 2014, and participates in shows and concert tours.
